Anyone know where this might be from?

Pieces of this mystery green multi-strand polypropylene material have been washed up on one of Macquarie Island's pristine west coast beaches for 5 years, and now staff stationed on Macquarie Island have recently noticed an increase in the amount of material with several hundred pieces being washed up each month. Each piece has been cut, is flat layed and around 400 millimetres in length, 5 millimetres in width and 1 millimetre in depth. There are no knots in the strands and it has been confirmed that the material is not from the Australian fishing boats that have been fishing for toothfish around the island. Does anyone have any idea of where this might be coming from??
