Any Folks I Still Know On Here?

It's been a while!

I found myself back on yachtworld.com, window shopping for the new Rebel Heart. Can't go long on the Internet with sailing without stumbling onto cruiser's forum so I thought I'd say hey as I imagine I'll be on here a bit over the next couple of years.

Just thought I'd say hello to all the CF folks.

Welcome back.

You missed a lot in the last few months. Have been some very interesting discussions on anchors, guns and blue water boats.

Other than that it's SOS.

Yep, all is good. Hoping to be squarely back in the boat market in the not too distant future. For now enjoying land life a bit. I have to tell you, it's nice being a nobody again.

And I probably never said thanks but a lot of what you wrote regarding water makers really helped me out with trouble shooting and operation, so thanks for that.

Is there a consensus?

a) Should I carry a gun?
b) What's the best anchor?
c) How do I know I have a bluewater boat?

I'll be trying to keep them a bit more on the boring side.

Re: any folks i still know on here?

Glad to see you back as well.

What boat do you think strikes your fancy? Since you're searching again I'm sure folks are curious.

I'd enjoy owning a modern something around 36-38 feet. You know, with twin rudders, flat bottom, and those chines on the hull. I like the way they look when they are trying to wet the rail and showing the windward rudder above the surface.

If I win the lotto it will be a Discovey 57 maybe.

So what boat for you?

Sure hope I used apostrophies correctly, Damn sure ain't gonna use any units.

Welcome back.

a) Depends on your preferences and the gun carrying proclivities and the legal issues with whatever locale you intend to visit.
b) None they, they each have their strong points. A better question would be what set of anchors would be best together?
c) Ain't touching that one, you would know better than I.

Where have you landed, back in SD?

Probably a high 38'-42' cat. We've seen some ten year old models that are in our price range, and I think I'm a lot more comfortable now buying something that's a bit of distance away from home, so that opens up options a bit.

We got really jealous of the big catamaran cockpits, and with with two kids we want something that can handle a family of four on passages plus a guest or two. Cramped, but I think do-able.

I've been a charter captain for cats in that size and they felt manageable for one person. Anything bigger and it seems like a bit more boat than we'd want to handle, never mind the price tag increase and resulting price increases for everything else attached/maintained.

Or a Discovery 57!

Yup. We joke around that we're "stuck" living in San Diego; not a bad place to live on land for a bit. Lots of stuff to do while we save cash and formulate plans.

Except for the last little glitch at the end there I think we were pretty successful, but we're happily letting our youngest grow up a little bit. We're in a rented apartment now and whenever she does something like color on the walls I just laugh and think about how much I'd freak out if it was on our boat.
