Advice on Competent crew

Hi,

We are thinking of doing an RYA competent crew course in British Virgin Islands - we thought RYA would be best for a recognisable qualification (we are British but will be sailing worldwide). Do you agree or is there a better worldwide recognised qualification?

Can you reccommend any good places for courses on the island (maybe with chances to meet other sailors after)?

All comments welcome,

Kerry and Marty

Hiya.... RYA is recognised worldwide... if your planning to go further later on I'd suggest you do the Commercial Skipper courses...
As to RYA certified schools... not sure but.. if you go here they'll point you in the right direction.
Be careful... there's some con artists out there so check em out before using the CC...

Re: Advice on Competent crew

The RYA name is certainly recognisable and an obvious choice for you if you are British.
It depends what you want to do.
If you have little or no experience and want to have some basic knowledge for sailing with other people on their boats RYA competent crew is a good place to start.
If you want to be able to charter a yacht, In Uk or many other places you will need a higher course.
RYA Day Skipper.
Plus some kind of navigation course.
