2012 - What are your Plans / Dreams / Fuzzy Intentions?

For me 2012 is:-
  • Finish the Refurb on the S/v Wayluya - around Springtime, March / April? (at least enough to get on her summer mooring - no power and no dock).
  • Try living aboard locally (whilst maintaining shoreside accomadation - it's called cheating ).

  • Build a Trimaran in Summer of 2012 (June - Aug).

  • Maybe even go somewhere foreign - like France, the UK. or Guernsey
  • Buy a Folding Electric Moped (Di Blasi), for my commute and storage onboard.

  • Further mull over a conversion to Electric Engine - possibly even start to do something about it
The above will be affected by workflow (self employed) and the cashflow that goes with that.......especially on the Electric Engine thing.

Anyone else?

Re: 2012 - What are your Plans / Dreams / Fuzzy Intentions?

1. Finish overhaul of the boat and launch (currently going on 2 years on the hard).

2. Survive the economy another couple of years without going broke.

3. Go sailing and see: Europe, eastern Med, Hawaii, Alaska, CA.

4. If I survive all the above contemplate RTW trip.

5. Contemplate conversion to electric (for me and the current state of affairs this would involve a winning lottery ticket)

1) Bunch of shakedown work. Next summer is our last summer before we leave for Central/South America.

2) Repair bowsprit. It's about 30% of the way through. Got lazy / busy.

3) Put in new head (will discuss in detail considering I've had about every marine head on the market at one time or another installed).

4) Some interior work that needs to be fixed. We were in a couple storms last year and some things broke free that need to be remounted (like our nav table).

Mine is pretty simple.
1. Move back to US around Apr.
2. Start looking for my first boat.
3. At some point, take a vacation and get away from work for a while.

Continue south at whatever pace is possible until the water is warm and the tacos are cheap.
Replace the prop shaft soon.
Finish the electrical system.
Fix all of the deck leaks...

I need to decide if I want to continue to maintain a shoreside recording studio. I'm having a hard time with that decision. I have decided to sail around Vancouver Island in the coming summer. I hope to take a very leisurely pace. The Pacific shore of the island is mostly wilderness and there's a lot to see.

Sell both boats and hole up in my study playing Texas holdem online.

Just kidding I expect for the first half we'll be cruising in the Bahamas and for the next four months sailing Lake Ontario on weekends and then who knows.

Re: 2012 - What are your Plans / Dreams / Fuzzy Intentions?

I'm Cheap. Washington requires a boater education card. I took the test and passed it first try without studying. But to get the $10 card you have to pay for the $40 class. It just really ticks me off, dunno why.

So my goal is to refit my boat and leave Washington state by August of 2013 before they require me to have that stupid damned card on my 45th Birthday.

This plan is dependant on my new tenant being stable and paying rent, and so far, 1/2 month into the lease she's batsh*t crazy so I dunno

I built a Sabotina (nut shell pram similar to your Eastport designed by Ken Hankinson), a few years back, didn't like the way the boat handled under sail. To keep a good feel for stability, I ended up sitting in the bottom of the boat vice on the thwarts. It weighs less than 30 kilos though and it goes smoothly with a small trolling motor.

1. Replace standing rigging
2. Re-seal the toe rail and rebed at least one portlight.
3. Glass work and bottom paint
4. Finish glass work on ocean kayak, finish the kayak.
5. Buy a new (to me) hole in the water, probably a Bene 393 or Morgan O/I 41. My desire for the Bene is countered my cheapness. :/
6. Start all over again...
