I've never eluded to or said anything to make my electrician think that I was going to stiff him or not pay him. Threats don't help these kinds of situations, usually.

This would do the trick:-

His punter not paying radar will be very finely tuned. Otherwise he would be out of business by now.

Given your comments in post #1, his radar is working just fine

Perhaps he is (or knows) a member, or lurker, here on the CruisersForum.

I would guess that it isn't just here in this thread that you're voicing your displeasure with how much your were charged. Chances are that others on the docks have been subjected to your kvetching, as well, and while some of them may like you and agree with you, others may be more sympathetic to the electrician.

If word has gotten back to him about your complaints, then I agree with D_O_J that he's only trying to protect himself. You may not know how he knows you're upset with him, but he does know. You may have even said to someone that you don't intend to pay him. If that has gotten back to him, you can only blame yourself if he's now demanding daily payment.

That did cross my mind, believe it or not....that's why I've mentioned no names.

Working backwards from you to him....you mention your boat every time you post

<=== Over here

How many 65ft cutters called Caelestis are there in San Diego?

This is exactly right, and anyone who knows how to access the USCG database already knows that it's a John Addison Traylor vessel constructed in 1990, previously named Suzanne, Brigadoon III and Beyond. The vessel is owned by the Christian missionary non-profit (presumably) incorporated in Florida, and since the name of the group is given, it's very easy to find its web site.

It's ironic that once a person does that, he will find displayed on the site a quote from Winston Churchill that could apply to someone who, like the electrician, is just "making a living." It reads: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

The electrician is trying to make a living, but what kind of a life is someone who refuses to pay the electrician making if he refuses to give the electrician what he has earned?

And the Biblical quotation:
Phil 2:4 - “Each of you should not look only to your own interest by also to the interest of others.”

I'll bet that no one complained about him subcontracting stuff...

"I have a complaint"

What did I tell you ....your reputation has preceded you.

Just remember this cuts both ways. I'm sure we all know boat owners in our marinas who contractors avoid or won't do work for because they have a reputation for not paying or being a pain in the ass. Do you want to be one of those over a few dollars?

If my reputation gets the job done right and saves my ass at sea then I'll have no one to blame but myself.

Come on Moonlight, this isn't about saving anyone's ass its about ego. You haven't said you were concerned about the integrity of the work. This is about the bill. You're pissed about the bill. Get off the high horse stuff about saving asses as sea.

So he charged you $275.00

which included the Xantrex Man?

If that is the case you made out like a bandit

Pay the bill......Keep in mind, if you stiff the guy, no one will come to work on your boat.....contrary to popular belief, yacht mechanics do talk to each other......It is common practice to check on "new customers"

That really pissed me off. What gives my electrician the right to charge me more than what the Xantrex repair man charged. I kinda knew this before but now I'm convinced that all these marine/boat peeps are in bed with each other and you really have to look out for yourself and ask questions about your invoice/bill. Additionally, my electrician hasn't given me the invoice for the work that was done on the inverter/charger.

I don't know about the legal ramifications of that either. I simply don't think it's very ethical at all.

When I confronted my electrician about the extra charge he said it's standard and that "everyone" does it, especially when he has to get someone else to do some work that he can't or isn't able to do.

I'm not going to pay it! What say you?
I have been stiffed for thousands of dollars....a lien doesn't mean you will get paid....it just means you have a boat and a judgement against the owner
