Yachts as a Better Investment than DOW ?

If I was rude, I would ask what the heck this writer is smoking, in this Yachtworld article.

In the article titled :"Yachting: a Safe Investment" the writer suggests the corner has been turned and now is the time to buy as an investment.

Quote from the article"
And anybody who buys back into the yachting industry now is not only positioned to do well financially, but also will be doing right by a world whose citizens are so desperately in need of jobs.
Huh? What parrellel universe is he living in?

Re: Yachts as a better investment than DOW?

Of course he wants you to think it's a great time to invest in a yacht. Lets see, its the end of the season in the Northern hemisphere isn't it

On the other hand the way that the US and Europe keep printing money assets of anything could be a better investment than money in the bank right now.

Article Quote" Superyachts like these (lined up at the Fort Lauderdale show) are a great investment right now, argues Bob Saxon."

He is not talking about 27ft 30 year old boats.

Re: Yachts as a better investment than DOW?

The same one his clients live in (the rich and famous). This is not our world but it's real.

Haven't you noticed? As the middle-class has suffered all kinds of indignities and financial losses over the past decade, the very wealthy have only got wealthier.

The largest corporations don't pay taxes, and they're sitting on tens of billions of dollars.

The wealthy don't pay much in the way of taxes either, having lots of loopholes and overseas "investment" opportunities.

The money for "yachting", meaning "mega-yachting" is there, alright.

Yachts and investment used in the same line; who would have thought possible unless the word "poor" is inserted somewhere in the line.

Don't write it all off as propaganda though - he is talking about the upper segment of the market. Megayachts are being built & launched around the world at an ever-increasing rate, waiting lists are getting longer and demand is sky-rocketing.

Sadly it is probably another example of the widening wealth gap between rich and poor but, politics aside, that segment of the market has never been so buoyant...

Just one of the many reasons the wealthy get more wealthy is not always assumed loop holes and taxbreaks. Many times they get more weathy because they invest when most others think they're crazy for doing so.

Re: Yachts as a better investment than DOW?

People pay many thousands of dollars to spend a week on one of those large, luxurious yachts. You think the mega rich buy them just for their own enjoyment? They buy them and lease them out much of the time and spend whatever time they like on them. There is another loop hole. If they are listed for sale with a broker they don't pay state taxes (may depend on state). They ask a high price and if they sell, great, they just build a bigger boat. If they don't sell, great, they don't pay taxes. Nice...

Re: Yachts as a better investment than DOW?

Yachts are a better investment then the DOW. No doubt about that in my mind.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in delta airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 Today
If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 Today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in lehman brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 Today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you will have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink
heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-keg.

And to add to this joke if you had invested $30k in a yacht and $1k in beer you would still have a boat that might be worth $25k and a thousand dollars worth of beer to drink while sailing on it. YOu tell me which is a better investment. They are both bad its just that investing in the yacht is better then investing in the three companies listed above.

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!

having a large(supa) yacht also gives added security for when the revolution comes, hence the demand for super yachts in the gulf states and other areas of social unrest.great way of escaping the lynch mobs with family and friends........

Re: Yachts as a better investment than DOW?

The wealthy do pay tax and plenty of it.
The businesses? Perhaps not.
However, these guys aren't so stupid to buy stocks. They get plenty of stock options for free anyway.
Boat is a depreciating asset , but as others have mentioned much better than losing all money on a margin call.
But mostly if you live in it...
I've seen adds for 800,000 per week to charter a megayacht.
My ex agrees with the chauvinistic Expression:
If it flies, floats, or efs - then rent - and she does and pays millions in taxes...
