Re: What's a Boat Worth?

How about a 48 foot classic for 400 1953 dollars - about $3500 today...

My Dad and Mom with their project boat - doomed from the start... At this point my dad was 32 and they already had 2 kids. 5 more were on the way...

You know what, though? These photos and the bill of sale were in his "personal" box found after he died. The dream obviously continued...

Re: What's a Boat Worth?

I'll be a happy woman if my kids have a photo of me of the likes of this someday. And knowing their mother's follies, it's likely...

Re: What's a Boat Worth?

Wood has many things good: longevity, replace-ability. It can accept countless work cycles too ...

It is easy to form, requires only very basic tools (and most advanced skills ...).

If I were to go for a wooden and well built boat I would not hesitate. What holds me back though is the amount of maintenance that is required to keep a wooden boat in good shape.

Sure, you are right, but I'm thinking maybe some of these old wood boats would do best to be buried in the dry Egyptian sands for a few thousand years!

Re: What's a Boat Worth?

At the shop that dh is at, there are a few in the yard that could have done with the Egyptian treatment. Neglect is not kind to a woody.

Hank's on in the background, and the lyric "she'll have you bitin' off your nails, and wearin' out your walkin' shoes" seem awfully apt...

That era definitely had stories to tell. Survive a depression, save the world, repopulate the planet.

Sorta puts my life in perspective...

Create free love, the internet, "smart" phones and 400 useless cable channels - LOL...
