'Tax Free' or 'Tax Hassle'?

Buying a Beneteau this season and taking delivery in Antibes. Registering as an Australian vessel and therefore not paying Aussie taxes unless (or more like when) I one day sail her into Sydney harbour!
Any tips and experience I can learn from where I could end up with a horrible bill just because I didn't know what I was doing? Plan to keep the boat in and around the Med for about 3 years or so prior to sailing home. First season Malta and then in Turkey.
