Ships models

Thinking about taking on a ship model project for the Winter. Any suggestions where to look - or what to stay away from.
Thanks in advance

I would check your local hobby shop. There are lots of models out there ready to build and at different skill levels. If you are a more advanced model builder, you might consider trying to locate plans for your own boat, and raw materials for a scale model. I have had this idea on my list for some time, but I have enough projects to keep me (and a small army) busy for the time being.

Yeah...I would stay away from half-scale ship models.

I can tell you what there isn't on the market. A model of a standard, modern production yacht with modern rigging and interior layout.
If you wanted to make one it would need to be from scratch. Could make it an interesting project for some.

just a thought

A model of your heart's desire..

I'll second the suggestion that you model a cruising yacht.

I did one of those square rigger kits (Artesarnia Latina Scottish Maid - looks nice, took four years) and then I used the same technique to build a model of a cruising yacht of balsa (three months).

The cruising yacht is 1:20 scale. I was "inspired" by a noted designer and used a photocopier to get things almost right.
