Shipping Internationally with Only a Bill of Sale

Threadmates ...

I may be buying a boat in HK and shipping it to Malaysia. Does anyone know if Hong Kong shippers or any other shippers for that matter will ship a boat that has a new bill of sale but no current registration.

In other words, the owner will have de-registered his boat, and I will have that document and his "old" registration, along with a bill of sale. Will shippers ship a trailer sailer under such circumstances.

Have been trying to contact shippers on this situation, but have not received any replies.

Thanks, in advance, for any comments or advice prodided.

Regards,

G2L

Consignment note...

I have no idea what it is, but a consignment note seems to be among those documents often needed.

A builders certificate from a previous owner can also be helpful. Have a look on the Aussie AMSA site for a "fill in" form/declaration. Have a "measurer" check that the data on the enthusiasts web site is correct.

Are you sailing the boat on it's bottom or shipping it as cargo?
If you are sailing her you will need rego, otherwise an invoice or bill of sale should be sufficient.

I would be amazed if a HK shipper required proof of ownership. Just pay money and load it like any other box of personal possessions. It it fits in a container is simple as pie. If deck cargo is more difficult cos HK is orientated towards containers. Shipping out of Quandong would be easier if deck cargo.

Thanks for the tip.

It's a trailer-sailer, so it will go on it's trailer into a container. Should just about fit as the beam is just under 8 foot including rub rails - almost exactly the 7.9 inches of a 40 fott container's interior.

My idea is to rent an suv, and back the trailer and boat into the container then strap her down myself and say good by, unloading her up at the other end.

See any problems with the plan? Will HK harbor guys allow me on the dock to do that or will I have to go through some kind of "agent" - ugh. That would cost me a nice chunk of what the boat costs, I fear.

Amy more advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

G2L

Yeah,

The problem with these shippers is that when they give you a quote they attach a thousand different acronyms with big summs of money next to them and you need a dictionary of shipping terms and acronyms (I actually found one on the internet) to determine what each stands for.

Not sure which one you are speaking of (have to go back to the dictionary and look) but there is CRC, THC, DOC and some others depending on exactly what you want to ship and how : 0
