Sailboat Transport

Well, as much as we would have liked to sail the boat from Maine to Baltimore life has gotten in the way that and having a chance to charter in the BVI's in May for 11 days instead LOL anyway we have decided to ship our boat from Maine to Maryland beginning of October so we can start down the ICW mid October.

WE are looking into shipping companies but it is hard to know who is good. THe companies we contacted in Maine don't seem interested in doing the shipping I don't think they do to many interstate ships and the price they gave us is crazy...I did get two quotes back that were reasonable from companies that specialize in longer interstate hauls but I was wondering if anyone on here had ever heard of them or had the names of others that they would recommend. The two I got were from Able Boat Transport out of Florida and Dotan Transport (Interstatehaulers they are also known as) out of North Carolina.

The boat is a 285 Hunter. Any thoughts on Transport companies? WE are anxious to get it south so we can start cruising for the winter...

How about just getting a delivery crew to move it down for you. Less hassle than having to de-rig the boat.

I don't usually work that far north, but there are a lot of qualified captains on this forum.

The boat isn't rigged right now..it is sitting in a boatyard on stands in Maine so to get a crew to sail it down we would actually have to rig it and put it in the water, but it is something we would consider doing if we found the right crew and the price was similiar to shipping.

I used these folks about 5 years ago for a Florida to Midwest transport and was happy with their service.
