Sailboat Delivery Questions...

I tried to search, but was unable to find answers.

I am going to be purchasing a ~35ft sailboat in Seattle, WA and will need it to be delivered to Portland, OR.

My questions are:

Which will be more economical/practical, shipping via truck, or hiring a captain to sail it down?

So what, roughly, am I looking at for a captain to sail it from Puget Sound to Portland, OR?

For overland, generally, what does it cost to have the mast dropped & set up again? Are the trucking fees calculated by mileage?

As of now it looks like I will be going for a 1983 Hunter 34

I thought I would confer with your experiences before calling around.
Thanks!

You have a few things to consider. Is your boat ready to go off-shore? It will need to be if you want a Delivery Skipper to take it down the coast.

Here's some quotes from a boat yard in San Francisco Bay:
$495 to take the boat off the truck and put it on the hard. No charge to put in the water later.
$103/ hour to have boat workers do stuff on the boat
$54/ day to store the boat, free if they do more than 4 hours of work on it in a day
$103/ hour to have a rigger work on the boat
$200/ hour for the crane to put the rig on (usually takes an hour if EVERYTHING goes PERFECT)
I've called a few trucking companies during my current search for a boat. They were glad to give quotes on the phone: Dudly 800-426-8120 Joele 800-237-0727

Look at www.mustadmarine.com for delivery options. Very reputable guy.
Good Luck
