Pricing Yanmars

3YM30 is the engine I would like to price, but after an hour on the net I'm not getting price. Am I missing something? Some one fix my compass, please.

Here's what Simplicity marine had to say :-
Yanmar Marine USA will no longer allow us to show the low prices we have displayed in the past. Other dealers in other parts of the country were upset with our low prices. We will be glad to quote Yanmar engines to anyone.

I was in Bayshore Marine's shop in Annapolis last year. They had a Mack Boring, remanufatured 3gm30f that they would sell for $5,000. The Beta Marine equivalent was about the same (not from Bayshore). Since the 3YM30 is the new version of the 3gm, the price should be similar but probably more. If you have an older boat, about 2005 or earlier that you are considering repowering then the 3gm would work. Otherwise new boats require the 3YM30 or look at the Beta. It will work for a new boat and is based on a very rugged Kubota block with good marinization.

When I bought my Yanmar, I just called various regional guys and discovered that it paid to find the highest volume dealer in your area. Yanmar (and probably others) gives discounts to dealers based on volume. On my engine it saved me 10% to go through the high volume guy because he shared his discount.

A couple of months ago I was looking at a boat that had an owner "rebuilt" motor with "only 100 hours on it". The hour meter said 4500 hours. The appearance said anything but 100 hours. The broker said there were no receipts. I said, I think I'll repower. I found a price in Los Angeles of $7900 for the same engine as you're looking at. My local dealer (a legendary prick) quoted $10000. The boat sold to somebody else because the broker failed to submit my offer.
