Old Wooden Boat Insurance

I am looking at a old wooden boat (well, 1973) and have been looking at the options for insurance and haven't really found any really great options.
Any suggestions?

Boat: 36' LOD 49' LOA, 1973, Wood, california coastal waters (for now) liability only if possible (~300,000).

Or any other suggestions for getting a slip with out insurance?

I tried to find other threads but couldn't come up with anything.

Buy a copy of woodenboat magazine. There are usually ads for woodenboat insurance. Also check out BoatUS. They may have coverage.

Try Hagerty Insurance, they might insure the boat if it's in pretty good condition. If it's in not-so-good condition, you may have a tough time finding any insurance. Let us know what you find.

depending on the condition if the hull you can have a really hard time getting wooden boat insurance. you'll need a survey done in the last 24 months and any findings or recommendations satisfied.

grundy out of Pennsylvania is great! they don't require a survey and their rates are amazing. the boat must have a value in excess of $10,000usd for them to consider you.

hagerty is another good one but requires a survey.

of the mainstream insurance companies state farm has treated us OK and I recommend them too.

forget about your homeowners or auto insurance company as their coverage levels for things like salvage and environmental cleanup (if boat sinks) are substandard or nonexistent.

I wasn't really impressed with boatus either.

so far the hardest part of wooden boat ownership has been insurance.
