northeast - maybe $20ish - but depends, doesn't it always ?
what does the insurance co. want ? what are you buying - sail, power, size, age, aux ? i surveyed a '84 31 foot aux sloop for $620 from a top guy in NY. paid marina haul fee separate at $250. still floating, so i guess he didn't miss anything major.

Ray, if the boat is in the bay area, check this guy out. I can speak for his reputation. He does allot of insurance work, and is also one of the most knowledgable wood boat surveyors around. http://www.rodgersandassociates.com/

Insurance Survey

Thanks for the responses folks. I am doing an insurance required survey for a trip from SF to Maine through the canal. Surveyor says $12 a foot in the SF Bay Area. That seemed a lot to me, but I guess it is the going rate. In the last 25 years things have increased a bit.

Ft. Lauderdale prices:

$10.00 per/ft for insurance survey
$20.00 per/ft for purchase survey
