Insurance Survey

I have had the boat on the hard since September. I will be putting her back in the water in April. My last survey is dated July of 2006. I'm wondering if I should get a survey done for insurance purposes while I have the boat out. I am currently covered but what will happen when I go to re up my insurance. I don't plan on pulling the boat again till 2009. I've been improving the boat since the last survey including a repower and new standing and running rigging.

I would check with your insurance company to see what their requirement is. it is unlikely they would want one this soon, however, some insurance companies require that you have surveys updated every few years. I would also check with the marina you will be in to find out how recent a survey they require, if any.

They will let you when a survey is needed. Anyway that is the way they work with me. Most FRP boats need a survey about every five years, unless you change companys.

Thanks S & G:

talking to an insurance company is a good idea. I will probably be changing insurance companies in the next year or two since I will be keeping the boat in Mexico. I figure that it is probably better to get that done now rather than have a scramble and haul the boat again.
