Insurance in the ICW USA

Hello
We are South Korean(not North) couple.
We 'll buy boat in NY or MD USA.
We should sail to florida for shipping to South Korea.
I think We need a insurance in ICW.
Both of us has a certification of sail boat and power boat up to 20tons in Korea.
Please help us

Contact strickland insurance company in charleton,SC, ask for brandy. I got my policy there and it covers eastern atlantic, ICW and down to bahamas. My boat is a 40ft sail boat and it was only $160 a year. they are super nice people and this year i even got a rider to go down to the VIs on it..

Some marinas may require insurance before they will allow you to dock overnight, but for a transient I would guess that most would not require it. Other than that, there is no requirement to have insurance traveling down the ICW. Certainly none if you are anchoring out.

Of course, if you can get a policy cheaply enough, it is not a bad idea.

The insurance you DO need is Towing Insurance. You can get it from SEATOW or BOATUS (TowBoatUS). It will pay for the groundings, and other problems you might have in traversing the ICW or even near-offshore. Not having Towing Insurance can cost you thousands of dollars and even the boat if you get into a problem and have to call for Towing or boat rescue.
- - It is a very cheap and/or reasonably priced compared with not having it.

If you want your boat protected should you encounter a situation where you damage your boat then insurance is good. Most marinas on the east coast require insurance for boats that are docking for a length of time, The marina we stay at in the summer requires our proof of insurance the day we dock. In NC alone there have been two terrible fires at marinas, so they have really beefed up on insurance and on the marina being ready for a fire with plans how to evacuate and fire equiptment on each dock. We had to also remove our gas jeri cans the day we moved in also.
I found this at a few of the docks we stayed at also on the ICW..
you can anchor on the ICW but you do have to plan where accd to your time schedule and also where according to places you might want to visit or provision at
there are also places in florida its not easy to anchor like in vero beach or ft meyers both require you to be on a mooring in a mooring field. you might want to consider that too in your route..
I do recommend US TOW BOAT INSURANCE for your trip also, $160 a year for unlimted towing, this year we had a prop wrap in titusville, and had to have a diver come out to take the rope off the prop, tow boat brought the diver, had the rope off in mins, and pulled us off the sand bar in 10mins.. BTW the bill for that tow was $960(10mins of work) and we paid ZIP... weve used them sevreal times in a season its saves us time and lots of money make sure you have it, US TOW BOAT DOES go all the wayto the bahamas btw and does services at the US protectorates, for your information, sea tow does not..

full coverage for the boat and its contents and insurance so while your at the dock not just while your moving. the company also grants riders if you have proof of experience sailing blue water, this year they granted us a rider for down to 12lat.. so weve come down to the virgins this year. its a great company nice people and good insurance
id rather have full coverage when an accident happened, then just simple liablity. esp like us we live on our boat full time, its our home, so its like homeowner insurance to us.

Buy a marine insurance policy from a marine broker. Two good ones are IMIS Corp in Grasonville, Md and Jack Martin in Annapolis, Md.

Liability only will cost about $500 for a year. You will get a refund if you cancel after part of a year.

Hull replacement coverage will depend on the value of the boat that you declare and will be expensive due to our hurricanes if you don't ship before June.
