insurance for ocean crossings

From another thread the topic is:

"...last I heard insurance rates for vessels to cross an ocean are scary...that's why so many do it uninsured.

Any recent crossers that would like to share what their premiums (relative...no need to give actual) were when they crossed and before would be appreciated."

I also think if your insurance company required extra captain/crew etc that cost you money that would be part of the answer as that in a way was an insurance cost.

Re: insurance for ocean crossings

Our boat is one year old, value of the boat is the same after one year. Our jackline bluewater policy is $4429.00 USA about the same as first year. My wife and I do not have to have more crew members for any ocean crossings. Do have some restrictions on what lands we visit but most of those countries we can add an add on if really wanted to go there. Surprised that we could not get an add on for Cuba but can get one for the Columbia north coast. The Cuba thing has nothing to do with politics and the USA just the way it is. We have had Jackline policy before on older boats we have owned and feel very comfortable with the insurance and the service they give as long as we follow the rules of the sea and their rules of where we can go.

Cheers
