In many states Progressive sells liability only policies.

You can get liability only from any insurance provider. 300k is typical.

I ended up going with Geiko because they let me get hull coverage without a survey

Ironhorse, if you have a home policy you'll probably be able to add the boat to it at no cost, I just did this for the $300k liability for a marina. If you don't have an existing policy you should be able to get a specific one real cheap.

Re: I need 300k in liability insurance

If your boat sinks, there are a lot of places that will insist not only on the salvag, but also on the clean up of the detrius from your fuel tank. 3million euro would be low, and some european nations are suggesting that this should be higher.

Re: I Need 300k in Liability Insurance

Boat US gave me a 300,000 dollar liability only policy in SF Bay. Was only a little more than a couple hundred a year. Didn't mind losing the boat but the fear of a fine or lawsuit made me really nervous in US waters.

Re: I Need 300k in Liability Insurance

Be careful about buying boat liability insurance from anyone other than a marine insurer, particularly adding a boat to your homeowners insurance.

Boats have some unique liability issues like salvage removal and pollution liability that home owners insurance for sure won't cover.

Interesting that someone in the land of lawsuits only needs 300K liability. Here in Toronto many of us have 2 million.

$300k is the Minimum imposed by most marina's around here. They don't really care if you loose your teeth to the EPA, or some bazillionaire yachtie...

Besides the home owners riders for boats and personal liability riders you can look at I.M.I.S. - International Marine Insurance Services - they have liability only policies for cruisers.
