Can one go small and go now? I guess it depends on what "Small" is and when is now and "IF" one can handle the small space.

A new 26 footer with all that I wanted to go cruising $ 70,000 + $ 1000 per month to spend without working put in a Goverment note that would be directly disposted into my checking account without anything needed from me every month + interest = $ 107,000 for 3 years cruising. This is cruising the Bahamas and East USA, not crosing oceans. If I can get by on $ 750 per month then just that much longer I do not have to get back to work. No money left after cruising.

No debts, No bills. Casting off in Nov after I finish making the money.

Anybody else starting or just started?

Funny Gord May. No, I have been wanting to go cruising for a long time and was dreaming of what size of boat that I would want. Well, I could not afford that but did find a way to go. So, no longer a dreamer but a do'er and soon "Out There".

A Statistics Canada study found that, people whose pre-retirement income was $70,000 or greater, tended to retire on about 45 per cent of that (or around $31,500).

Read as many sailing books as you can get hold of, and the book you relate most to, do as they did it. So, if DESPRATE VOYAGE by John Caldwell get your blood going, don't go in a $100.000 boat and a likewise budget, course your story will be boring boring boring.Get my DRIFT. (Sorry, had to) True adventure is facing the unknown, not a japanise holiday..So what is it you'r after.

I agree with your point. If the boat is not in shape for the cruising that you want to do you should expect more breakage/worn out. It would be advised to get a smaller boat that can be in better shape cheeper so that one can be safer. After all cruising is about getting there and back and getting there again.
