As mentioned before, E-Bay + PayPal are your friends. If you stick to their rules, they'll keep you out of trouble, and most often save you time and money in the process.

REPORT REPORT REPORT

I have sold 1000's of listings on eBay and this is 100% a scam. Report them and ask that the account be removed if possible. Never bypass eBay's standard selling procedures or accept checks or money orders and ship items as they can come back as forged. Use Paypal whenever possible to receive and make payments as this provides a degree of protection.

I am also under the impression that electronic bank deposits can be undone when the bank gets a false deposit, but it may take days for this to happen.

my point is that the money directly in your bank is NOT a guarantee of anything.

Yes, was definitely a scammer, I've no doubt now. Replied saying I suspected they could be a scammer (in a nice way) and have received no reply. I would imagine a legitimate buyer would have come back with some kind of indignant and defensive reply, even if was just to tell me to f off!

Good Work Charlie...................
That may be perfectly legit. They just took theip pittbull Charlie with them to a courthouse, and are waiting for a judge to sign papers while Charlie holds his teeth at judge's throat. This is a good way to solve problems like that. Dunno why this alarmed you.

The scammers tried it on with me,getting irritated why I didn't reply to PayPal messages.
Reported them to PayPal,got them removed, but I'm sure set up a new account immediately to snare another sucker.
Spelling mistakes and inconsistencies give them away!

Re: Hmm, I think a fellow cruiser tried to scam me

i read someone mentioning cruisers are cruisers. some good some bad. i can agree with that. however, in my opinion, most cruisers from the western world are usually good and honest in such matters. they are much more principled than cruisers in such matters than those may be from other parts of the world. but my strong opinion is that a true sailor would never do something like that to another fellow sailor however desperate.
