Wall Street Journal
Oil Prices at Nine-Month High as Iraq Instability Continues - WSJ

Quote:
NEW YORK—Global oil prices climbed to a new nine-month high Thursday in a seventh straight session of gains after President Barack Obama emphasized he wouldn't send U.S. forces to Iraq.
Brent crude on the ICE futures exchange settled up 80 cents, or 0.7%, at $115.06 a barrel, a fresh nine-month high.

Iran appears set on protecting the Shiite oil fields of southern Iraq as multiple reports this week detail the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and other militia forces moving into the southern region to protect the area.
For now, oil exports and southern production are not impacted by the ISIL movement, but the fall of the Baiji refinery today does increase concerns over the growing turmoil in the country.
And as concerns mount, there will be a big impact on crude oil prices today and in the future...

Re: Higher Fuel Prices Coming

Cost of new sails and even boats will go up too eventually.

Still the US is sat on a shed load of oil and gas, perhaps a higher price might mean they start to use more of it, get a taste for it and continue to develop their own supplies and remove the reliance on the Middle East. Europe could do the same.

Re: Higher Fuel Prices Coming

I'm soooo happy I just got a Lehr 15 hp propane outboard. Local price for fuel is under $2 a gallon, the motors cost the same as other four strokes, and there's NO alcohol, gumming of the carburetor, and it has a built-in hose coupling for flushing. Sweet.

Re: Higher Fuel Prices Coming

You get about half the BTUs from propane as you do from diesel. Use this information to take long positions in the crude, gas, propane commodities market and the money you make will more than offset the increased price at the pump.

Re: Higher Fuel Prices Coming

Stu,
This is my concern,...and worry, that many folks (at least Americans) don't seem to be following as they are so put off by the whole long term war we've been involved with over there.

What I am seeing is a real movement into a BIG religious (sectarian) war, not only in Iraq, but Syria, Iran and maybe even involving Saudi. But lets say it just limits itself to Iraq.

What happens to the operation and maintenance of all those production platforms, facilities, and refineries that are now being targeted by these radicals. I'd make a guess that most of the technical knowhow to operate these facilities comes from expats working there. If I were one of those, I'd be moving out right now, rather than possible facing a beheading by these radicals.

What does that all add up to when you seriously disturb the supply from the second largest proven reserves of sweet crude in the world?

Higher Fuel Prices Coming

Of course this is what happens when various western powers , sat down , carved up historic lands with a pencil, promoted despots to then control it and then ultimately those western powers walked of the pitch ( typical beaten of the pitch actually)

The " Muslim menace " has been around since the crusades. Good propaganda to keep your own citizens quiet

" sorry in advance oh great moderators. "

Okay history test.... Who said, "Who speaks today of the extermination of the Armenians?"

Understand who said it, when it as said and you will understand the urgency in maintaining some type of order. And not sweeping current events under the carpet.

While we are at it, ask the Coptics and other Christians who continue to be martyred in the Middle East for their faith.

Not propaganda - just facts.
