Have Boat, Will Travel

My position is that I have a boat and would like to travel. My problem is I have no job or income. I am 50 years old with the rug pulled out from under me. I have a 42ft cat which is in South Africa. I would be interested in any marine research organisation requiring a boat or any other viable suggestions.

Re: Have Boat, Will Travel

It seems I need to widen my search, anyone interested in access to a boat, nothing fancy but a good entry level option. To give some idea it is a $65 000 boat.
Any one?

Hi Barry......... helps if you give some info about your boat mate... make, age, composite or GRP... interior layout and equipment..
Can't you scrape some cash together and just sail it to the Caribbean... you'll get better $'s/ft there than SA....
Enough to fill the tanks and galley...??

Re: Have Boat, Will Travel

Barry,
Boatman might have something. Can you get crew to help supply and go? I'll bet you could get company for the trip and the Caribbean is just the spot for a cat... great travel destination and a better market.
None of those great surfers out your way who might want to bring their boards, contribute some supplies and hitch the oceans? Great surf breaks east (not sure of the season going that way though) and to a lesser extent west. They could hop another boat or could maybe pool resources get through the canal and do Mexico and the south seas. Sounds like fun to me...

In the same situation now myself at 58... don't know how it's all going to work w/o apparent income but have a good boat and nothing left here so going sailing. What the hell...

Boat details; GRP, launched 1997, 2x double, 2x single cabin, 2x heads, 2x shower, 130L freezer, 90L fridge, water maker, galley up, GRP tender, radar, VHF, auto pilot, VW golf diesel in centre pod, 8 man life raft, all othe safety gear.
I have been trying to get a group together but I have too many friends that still want to keep their jobs and standard of living, unbeleivable??
How easy is it to opperate in the Caribbean?
My boat is on the hard and needs about 3 months work on its facelift. (I have been working on it for about 18 months)
