Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I just completed an online Geico app and the results indicate I could cut my insurance bill in half by switching from Boat US. This seems a little too good to be true. Has anyone had experience filing claims with Geico Marine? I don't mind paying for good insurance but I guess I do mind paying twice what I need to pay if all else is about equal.

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I have experience with Geico regular, not marine. In about 2005 I was driving down a road at night in Rhode Island and came up to a stop light. While I was slowing down, a car smashed into the rear of my car. I was carted off to a hospital with back problems. There was damage to my car, hospital and rehabilitation bills.
The other driver had Geico insurance. I phoned them, they knew about the accident, I submitted the bills, they said they'd paid them. Months later I dropped in to the doctor's office to check, and the bills hadn't been paid. None of the bills had been paid. And there was a time limit, and the bills were over the limit. Geico refused to pay, many thousands of dollars.

LoL
Geico owns BoatUS!
Same claims department.
The BoatUS policy does have a more complete coverage on a couple points, but they dont do a very good job explaining the benefits.

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
We have Seaworthy, never had to claim, but I understand this is now under Geico umbrella also. Boat US quotes were always way higher for us when asked .

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
gieco does own boat us.
simplistically
its more important to find out what the policy is
is it ACV where the market value determines the the value of the boat and everything is depreciated based on age
OR is it All risk replacement cost new for old
READ THE POLICY before you sign on the line

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
When I got my BOATUS policy a few years back, I saved a LOT over my then policy with Progressive (They handled marine coverage for USAA), plus the insured value was higher. I have not looked elsewhere for marine coverage.
I just got my renewal and BoatUS is now an agent for GEICO.

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I'll say from the outset I have no connection with Geico other than being a happy policy holder....
I've used Geico for my Cal-29 for a number of years, the cost has been pretty fair all round, the policy is held by a company called 'Ski Safe'.
I did have occasion to claim a couple of years ago courtesy of Sandy and their handling was helpful, easy and the resolution was quick - not sure whether that's normal or because they were simply swamped with claim volume, I prefer to think the former and tbh all communications (phone and email) I've had with them has always been helpful and constructive (how often do we get to say that these days...)

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
Been with BoatUS for over 30 years with 2 claims and found them easy to work with and prompt with paying claims.
Now that Seaworthy is really Geico, has anyone had any experience with filing a claim?

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I priced Boat US, and it turned out Geico was half the price, so I insured with Geico. I have all my insurance with Geico and would never change. Their service is excellent.

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I shopped extensively when I bought my CAL31 two years ago, and the best was Allstate. Less than half either Geico or Boat US for the same or better coverage.

My Seaworthy policy changed to Geico... best price of any I have ever found. Well funded company, part of Berkshire Hathaway

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I was told Gieco doesn't insure boats over 27 feet.
Is this not true?

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I just renewed my BoatUS policy and they indicated that their new underwriter was Geico Marine Insurance Company. That is who the check was to be made out to. Also, though they indicated there was no change in coverage and all was still handled through BoatUS. I haven't had any claims in recent years, so not sure, but being on the Gulf Coast (Dauphin Island, AL), BoatUS had the best coverage for me year round here (Hurricane zones considered).

Re: Geico vs Boat US Insurance
I understand that some of the half price policies don't have the same coverage, for example hazardous spills. So if your boat sinks and spills diesel fuel, you will be paying any eviro fines.
