It is 183 days if you are a resident in some other country.

Re: Free Stuff (and bargains) you HAVE acquired or snaffled!

You can be born in Mexico and be brought to the U.S. at one day of age, and not be an American.

You can be born in the States and be brought to Canada at a week old and not stop being an American.

I actually know people who've never lived there (but who may wish to visit relatives) who are in a jam because the IRS wants them to file 30 years of tax forms on zero dollars of income earned in the States.

Not free and not a bargain, acquired or snaffled. It is, however, off-topic and a disincentive to visiting the States.

One thing I was happy to have is when I bought my boat, I found there was a new/unused pressure cooker and tea kettle, also looked unused. I've now so far used them more than the boat but trying to remedy that soon.

Re: Free Stuff (and bargains) you HAVE acquired or snaffled!

I was living on board in New York and the crew and I were provisioning up for a cruise. Someone on a mega yacht nearby found out and let us have a bunch of stuff from their freezer as they were going to reprovision too. Had shrimp appetizers, steaks and other stuff for several days. Wish I had a freezer because we still had to leave some of the steaks on the dock.

Got a free fishnet and usually find a free extension cord or two being thrown out in the boatyard ever year. I repair them and use them where needed.

Re: Free Stuff (and bargains) you HAVE acquired or snaffled!

Guy on my dock wheeling the cart down the dock with a like new hatch air conditioner. I ask him if he is stowing it to go for a sail. He says no, he "does not want to mess with it". I tell him they are expensive, he says I can have it if it will save him lifting it into the dumpster.

Is that a serious question, or just a jerk?

Once I salvaged the gear, I was its owner, and the warranty was not limited to the original owner.
