Finding, buying, shipping a boat

What do most people do when they find what they think is their ideal boat?
I found what I think I want, its approx 1200 miles away, the boat is listed for approx $14,000 the shipping is approx $2500. It needs some work like bottom paint and cleaned up, its dry docked at the moment. It will most likely need some new equipment, like a VHF. I need to stay total under $20,000.

I know one can't believe all thats written or told. Do you drive or fly to look at the boat? Hire a survey and trust it then negotiate then ship it site unseen? or both? How much is the average survey for a 32 ft motor sailer?

I recently bought a 33 footer that is 1800 miles from where I live' Found it on the internet, flew to it and organized a survey while I was there, and bought it. I will enjoy the boat on the east coast so I won't deal with shipping. It has been pretty simple so far.

So you will leave it where it is and fly there to use it? How much did the survey cost?
