Dollar going further in Mexico

The USD to Mexican Peso Exchange rate has gone way up. Last year cruising Mexico the dollar to peso exchange rate was around 15 pesos to the US Dollar. Now it's up 2 pesos to 17 pesos to the USD, a 13% increase in buying power!

Look at the graph of the Dollar to Peso exchagne rate skyrocketing

It's time to cruise your boat south from the west coast of the USA and Canada so your dollar goes farther.

Any other locations experiencing greater buying power for the American and Canadian sailor?

re: Dollar going further in Mexico

Was in Mexico yesterday for a quick day trip to ship some water makers down to La Paz and for my daughters monthly adjustment to her braces. Filled up the car trunk at Mega with groceries to take advantage of the deals!

Too bad some marinas only take payment in US Dollars not Pesos!

Ah, I only wish that were true with regard to the Canadian $. In fact our dollar has remained fairly stable compared to the Mexican Peso. It has plummeted compared to the USD. Americans would do financially well to head north to Canada right now.

Re: Dollar going further in Mexico

I'm experiencing a low Canadian dollar. Just a few years ago, Canadian and US dollars were at par. That made boats for sale in the US very affordable to us canadians. Now the "Loony" is down 25%. No way I can buy a boat in the states now. And Canadian boats are a bargain for Americans...especially our freshwater, salt free, rust free, great lakes boats.

Even going over to the US side for supplies and maybe a meal out has gone way up.

They don't have to stay the winter, just stay long enough to buy a boat at 25% off the advertised price...how great is that?

For example, this great looking Whitby 42:

Listings at Harris & Ellis Yachts

Its $79,200 cdn...which converts to $59,400 USD. And thats the full asking price!
A ready to go, sail around the world boat for about $50k US... half the threads on CF are looking for that!

Holy Maple Syrup...I would even live a winter in Canada for that deal!
I know this is a little thread drift but it just goes to show that you don't need $250K to buy a great boat and cast off cruising. Crap...If my wife sees that boat and I'm still in the boat yard in another week she will want it and will tell me to come join her after I finish and sell our current boat....ahhhhh

Re: Dollar going further in Mexico

Hey Rich, you got a list of those marinas that price in pesos? I have a single lady friend, not on c.f., who just went down to her new to her boat in soc. She would really appreciate the info. Thank you!
