No but there appears to be. Look at the poll results and think back to past thread posts. Look at the size of the "cruising on $500" thread and look at the poll votes etc.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

I voted the 500-750 range. I haven't done it yet, but I expect that shouldn't be a problem. I could do it on less, but I like to drink so that should add to it a bit.

Not to me. Those on the smallest budgets are the least likely to have the funds to pay for Internet access and to be reading Cruisers Forum.

what makes you say that?
internet is not high priced.
boats for cruising have many price ranges and sizes.
sailed the GOM with a 600usd/month ssi recipient. there are many sailing who are that exactly.
is kinda funny how and why the lower income groups also seem to SAIL more than the high roller types.. and smile more.....

The $500 thread is a tribute to the singlemindedness of the OP.......and his confusion between a Blog and a Forum

Probably don't hear so much from those with adequate money as a) other things they can afford to do than waste time on Internet and b) not so much need to seek DIY help on / moan about.

We have been tracking it for over 5 years and if we spend 10 cents on something it gets recorded....To see each of our last five years go to: S/V BeBe: Costs

This is not the opinion of some arm-chair-expert. It is a summary of the facts of our costs while circumnavigating.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

I voted $750-$1000. I feel that is realistic based that I'm a Veggie and do not have an alcohol habit. My feeling is what you have, you spend. at least that's what my life has demonstrated thus far..

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

We have started out our cruising life with the goal of being frugal, yet, not uncomfortable. Obviously we are just starting out on our cruise life &, therefore, can not say what financial surprises will crop up along the way, but we're shooting for the $500-750 range, if comfortable, while kicking around West Mexico. When we were doing our clearing in, here in Ensenada, we had to go to the bank to pay some of the fees, because the Port Authority only took credit cards & we don't use them(have never applied for one). When we arrived at the bank - a walk of about 6-8 blocks - another couple that had been at the PA doing the same clear-in arrived by taxi. I wouldn't think to take a taxi for that distance at home - although I'd probably drive my car - and the walk allowed us to peek into all of the businesses along the way. I'm not criticizing the other couple - to each, their own - but we prefered our mode of transport.

Maybe perspective will change with time, but we've been thoroughly enjoying ourselves, thus far. Yes, for the record, we could afford to "up the ante", but any funds that are over our pensions - which also maintain our home expenses in Vancouver - come from savings that are earmarked for continued development of our properties in Asia.

I can't liken the present experience to camping, because we have comfortable berths, internet, and most amenities found in a home. One thing that is lacking is space, but I'm the kind of person who carries an abundance of tools, sailing gear & other equipment. If we'd bought a larger boat, I would have filled it up with more stuff.

We've had the good fortune to live on one of our previous boats for 3.5 years, so are not unduly stressed by the space issue, but more is always nice. Then again, one of the reasons we're attracted to this lifestyle is that we're sick of the materialistic-driven life we had.

But of course your "income limitations" are your budget.

But if putting aside a cruising kitty it has to last and can not be looked at as "it will cost whatever you can afford to spend". Unless you are planning 1 heck of a good month!
