So we don't spend the next 6 pages talking about upgrades or initial boat conditions etc.

Go ahead and start another asking about monthly boat costs.

So..................did you vote?

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

Not having a big boat, I still posted in the big boat spending range. Why? Well I can’t see the fun in “camping” on the water while cruising.... I wouldn’t live in a cardboard shack behind the dump on land, so why would I settle while on the water? Admittedly, I’m a fair-weather coastal cruiser who likes a marina every third night or so, I like ice and cold beer with my fresh vegetables, sometimes even served by a waiter in a tux. I like to explore the places I go until I no longer feel like I want to be there, then move on. I rent cars, motorcycles, skiffs and airplanes to get around. Worst of all, I’m a gadget freak and have a terrible compulsive shopping habit.

I’m not rich, but both my S/O and I have never had kids, always made good money, and actually made some good investments that didn’t tank when the bubble burst. $4K/Mo is about the minimum by my figures.

2000-2250, This is the budget, but I may end up doing 500, who knows. That does include marina, but not maintenance.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

Retirement wise I have $4500 month coming in, I will commit 50% to monthly expenses and the rest goes into reserve and the haul out every second year, the boat will be in very good shape heading out so it will need its bottom done on the first couple of haul outs.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

been sitting here thinking about what we spent the past few years on cruising in florida/bahamas, and i'm going to venture that our nonmaintenance expenses are in the 1000 to 1250 bracket.

this might be a bit high to some but it includes the occasional dockage, occasional picking up mooring balls, and more than occasional restaraunt bill - although that is always at 'local' restaraunts and never at tourist traps. with a little sacrificing i'm sure i could easily get it under 1000 but since we can afford it, well, why not? got to keep the admiral happy and nothing makes her happier than a lunch of cracked conch with sides of macaroni and cheese, peas and rice, and fried plantain at her favorite restaraunt, junovias, in marsh harbor, or macdonalds in green turtle cay...

I don't understand what point you are trying to make. If it's that no one is interested I notice you were interested enough to read the thread.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

My current living expenses are around 800/m. That includes slip fee's. I don't expect it to change much while cruising. I can trade slip fee's for entry fees. Maintenance costs are minimal on my simple/small boat. I can fairly easily cut this down a bit, but I'd rather not. I live pretty well by my standards, and will plan my cruising budget accordingly. $1000 a month seems perfect. But I could 'get by' (less alcohol) on 6-700/month. $500 a month might be necessary at times when work is rare

For repairs and emergencies, a little bit of savings separated for this purpose alone will do just fine.

Re: Cruising Budget - Version 1000

So far the votes don't match how most discussions seem to have gone on past threads over the years. Wonder if there is a relationship between likely posters and their expected budgets.
