I'll agree with Henryk, a good, reputable insurance company is what you need!! You don't want to have to be dickering around with them with all of the other stresses when you are making any kind of a claim. At least that's my experience with car insurance...from many, many years ago.

We are going through the insurance purchasing routine right now and I'd wager that for the size, cost, and age that you are talking about and for having it in the hurricane box, you are looking at about $3K. Susan Ratrie, one of the members of the forum, is an expert and broker. Perhaps she'll catch this thread. If not, you might try to find one of her posts and contact her. She has been very helpful to us!

I just love it when everyone starts comparing apples & oranges! The year of the boat, the length & model, the hull value, the navigation area and your experience all factor into the cost of marine insurance.

I can personally highly recommend IMIS. BTW Susan, how are you able to go cruising and still do the insurance thing? I want a job like that

I managed IMIS before doing the cruising thing, so I was able to learn a lot about the rating systems and insurance products. It would have been hard to learn this job without having spent those years in the office working closely with Al Golden.

Technologically, I am able to work through the miracle of computers and the support of the folks back at IMIS in Grasonville. Right now I'm using a Verizon Wireless Data Card. I used WIFI with a high power antenna last year when we were in the Bahamas. I'm researching options for our trip to the Caribbean, and was just about to look on other parts of this forum for information on BGAN satellite service. I'm completely paperless- all documents are in PDF format and I can fax from the computer.

I do enjoy my job- it's fun e-mailing other cruisers & finding out their plans. I've actually met a lot of our customers along the way!

I don't want to hijack this thread. But I'm interested in ways of getting occasional internet access while in the Caribbean. Susan, could you comment on your experiences? I think this links to the appropriate thread.
