Boat on the Hard...

I have a 24' S2 on a trailer... planning to step up to bigger boat... How much is it to store a... let's say 40' boat on the hard ? Kind of an open ended question i realize. My thought is to cruise for 4 months of each year, put the boat up somewhere out of the water for the other eight. curious about cost.

I have a similar plan 33' boat on the hard in Italy runs anywhere from Euro$ 365 a month down to Euro $ 180.

In the PNW, I am paying about $400/mo, with electricity, for a 53' ketch, on average (the rates vary with the season).

do those rates allow you to work on the boat? or is it just storage? how much would you have to pay to work on the boat if that is just storage?... i know south fl is 900 a month (30/day) in the cheap yard

South Texas is about $535 just to pull and splash. Don't know what monthly charges ae on the hard. Monthly charges for my 43' in the water is $270 per month. This IS a DIY yard.

In the USA and Caribbean the rates vary dramatically from some lows of US$6 to $7 ft up to $15/ft to haul/launch and a daily rate in the storage yards varying from $0.28 to $1 per ft per day.
- - Without a location it is difficult to be more specific. Generally the more popular the cruising site the more expensive the boatyards.
- - Some boatyards in the USA are now using "inverse" rate charges to discourage long term storage. The initial daily rate is reasonable but as the months pile up the rate starts doubling and tripling. It has been found by some US boatyards that long term storage eventually turns into abandoned boats which take up space but pay nothing.

I think your plan should figure 10 dollars a foot plus 350 to haul out and 350 to drop back in.. I've hauled all over south Florida and carribean for many years and found that to be my average.. Good luck.. Hope this was helpful

yes, very helpful Capttman, et.al. A little higher than my current marina rate of $4.16/ft/month for the whole 6 month season. Albeit a local fresh water lake....

For this past winter I paid $32 per foot in Massachusetts for a haul, pressure bottom wash, and relaunch in the spring after 6 months of storage over the winter.

I paid my annual dues about a month ago. I am based in Lake Ontario, at one of the most economic yacht clubs in the Toronto area.

For my 38 foot sloop, (11'6" beam) I paid $2785 for the full year, which is 6 months in the water, and 6 months dry storage. Includes lift in and out, and mast step and take down. We base our fees on the LxBx $x.xx/sq foot. I leave that number blank as we are looking at some pretty stiff increases, now that the Toronto city government just increase our property taxes by over 500%.

I'm at the north end of Lake Huron, and for a 37 ft. Trawler and a 32 Douglas sailboat, for dry storage in the winter, mooring and free dock if I'm on the boat,marine railway in and out, manual mast crane, I pay just under $1700 Canadian.I have to put in 20 club work hours but that's some of the best social time of the year.
