Re: Boat Insurance out of USA

Like the add says-you don't need another insurance policy....you need another insurance company!!! A survey ought to be good for 4-5 years, especially if it's just for insurance purposes. 22 months is not even 2 years. I'd be looking elsewhere.

Re: Boat Insurance out of USA

I've been talking with Pantanaenius recently, and I've really come to see that they all cost around the same when you normalize their coverage.

The problem that I've been having is due to a US tax act that requires all foreign companies to report accounts of US citizens. Since this introduces a lot of overhead, they will often just say "nope, not gonna deal with this."

These are the 4 underwriters to my qoute btw.

ACE European Group Ltd. Direktion für Deutschland (25,00%)

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE Niederlassung Hamburg (25,00%)

AIG Europe Ltd. Filialdirektion Hamburg (25,00%)

R + V Allgemeine Versicherungs AG (25,00%)

That threw me for a minute...

The Jackline program (intended for bluewater nav) on a new risk requires a survey report less than one year old. It allows for one up to 2 years old if the surveyor understood, and commented that the yacht was seaworthy for offshore navigation. It then requires a new survey every 5 years thereafter.

All of them are reviewed by experienced voyagers!
