Boat Insurance - Florida

Hi,

We decided to sell our boat. We are returning to Florida and will be putting our boat at a dock behind a house until it's sold. Does anyone have any recommendations for some cheap insurance in Florida until it's sold.

So far I've tried...Foremost and Boat US.

Thanks,
Ken

You can buy insurance that only covers the boat while in the marina. It will be more expensive if you keep the boat in South Florida during hurricane season.

There are a few companies that cover boats in Florida. But the other problem you have is that your boat is for sale. Many companies don't want to start up a new policy for a boat that is for sale, since they consider it to be a "Moral Hazard" (IE, you really want to get rid of that boat, don't you But be sure to disclose that the boat is for sale when you apply, even if they don't ask, since if you have a claim and the underwriter was not aware that the boat was for sale, it would be a cause for denial of the claim.

Best Regards,

I know progressive covers my boat, it is older and they never asked for a survey. decently priced coverage, I did shop around and they were the lowest. I am pretty sure they will not write a new policy during hurricane season but not positive.

Progressive usually won't write a new Florida policy for a boat over 35' long, but it goes by zip code, so it might be worth a try.
