Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

Whatever you can negotiate? There isn't anything like Edmund's for cars, which lists the "dealer cost" and so gives you an idea how much room there is for negotiation. As such, there isn't any rule of thumb, or standard amount, that you can expect to be able to negotiate. In this economy I would expect that they would be more willing to deal than in years past, but who knows?

In any case, good luck.

Thanks

I have been offered 10% off the base price.
Does that sound fair for the dealer and me??

If you have not made an offer take 20% off the base. Make that offer & see why happens.

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

I have a friend who sells Beneteau. The dealer pays approximately 15% less than the factory MSRP. In addition there are periodic spiffs based on marketing plans, inventory reduction programs, non current models, etc. The dealer pays interest on his floor planned inventory so that further reduces the profit.

Ordering a current model from the factory would probably only rate a spiff if there was a factory incentive going on.

If you don’t have a trade I would ask for 15% off and bargain hard. If they give you anything additional it’s a win for you. If they say no to any additional discount then you will know that you got the best possible deal on that particular boat.

Oops, DW was posting while I was writing. Sure, 20% off base, why not? I was suggesting 15% off the total deal assuming your 10% was off the total not just the base.

Would also add that certain dealers maybe in a better position than others depending on their volume and inventory. Certain times of the year are also better than others
What model /size are You looking to order?

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

Thanks for the info

Looking to purchase a new sense 55
the boat is grossly underpowered
waiting until they put in a larger engine either the 110 or 125 hp
I think they will do that by next year.
they have been getting complaints from all over the world that it is underpowered

That is so crazy...........since they offer 110 on the Oceanis 54 + the Sense is the "cutting edge" Sailing Yacht of the firm
Hard to understand there is no engine option(s)
is the 75 turbo charged?

Need to get some hot rodders under that hood - "Pimp my Boat"

Beautiful yacht - I drooled over a smaller one at the most recent boat show out here.........although I think the forward (owners) berth should be larger but they seem to focus so much attention on cockpit / outside space

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

I am ever reminded of the Rugs a Million ads here in Australia, where they say 90% off genuine blah blah blah rugs.

These ads are so notorious one of the comedy groups even made a spoof ad of them

Its not a good deal if 25% off has you paying more than a similar boat similar specced and its a great deal if 0% off is better value than a similar specced boat.

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

When we bought our Beneteau, the dealer told us to wait for the boat show and buy it there as the B would discount the boat deeper than at any other time.

I sold new boats (stink pots) for a living many years ago and when we were doing a boat show with factory reps., one could indeed get a very good deal. We had our bottom line and the reps. could take it lower without it cutting into our profits. I applaud your dealer for presenting you with that info.

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

Hard to believe!!
I ordered a new Sense 55, subject to them installing a 110hp or 125hp engine with a ZF12 sail drive instead of the ZF10. The dealer obviously pushed for the sale, the head of Beneteau USA pushed for the sale, took the order to France, dealers from around the world have complained that the boat is underpowered, the crew that took the demo boat north from West Palm Beach ran into head seas and complained the boat was underpowered, inspite of all the above they have decided to continue with the underpowered 75HP engine.

They have returned by 10% deposit.

Yup - hard to believe

But on the other hand - their kinda factory does not do "customizing"
Yet You would think by now - upgrades for next year's models based on feedback should be in place.

Guess they have enough $$$ to let your order walk.

What brand/models are You now considering?

Jeanneau 509 & 57 are certainly equipped with more power.

Hanse 545, 575?

Re: Beneteau Discount on New Yacht

I will go to the boat show in Annapolis to see what new yachts are entering the market.

Hopefully I will find a boat I like as much as the sense 55.

Who knows, by then Beneteau might decide to use a larger engine in the 55
