About to Pull the Trigger ?

I made an offer on a 1989 32-200 Ericson and it looks like we may be moving forward.

After our experience with our last boat (a wooden 1965 -38' Owens Aruba), the admiral is weary of buying another boat. I have to admit that I am too.

I know there will now be a constant drain on our finances, new worries, things breaking etc. but is there any place for logic in this?

My thinking is that we only live once. I can see my famly spending many joyful hours sailing the coastal waters of our home near Destin/Pensacola.

Reading the myriad of posts here over this past year, I am excited to experience the cruising life you all enoy.

Wish us luck if we move forward.
I guess if we discover that it's not for us, we could simply sell the boat.

Well, good luck. But is this your decision as an individual, or a family decision? If I were you (which I know I'm not), I wouldn't buy another boat until your fairer half is happy with the decision...

Once you have her blessing, use the boat frequently.
The more you use the boat, the less the expenses will seem to be. At the same time, using it will discover more stuff. The FUN of owning a boat..

I'm with ya!

I'm about to do the same with an Ingrid. It's a lot of money (to me), and I have anxiety about "pulling the trigger". Include the refitting funds and I get even more anxious.

Life changing stuff here.

My heart races everytime I see her. The thought of fitting her out using all my money is secondary.

Is she not beeeeeautifUL?

Pictures are in my gallery.

Re: About to Pull Trigger - ???

I did it!
I now own "Anian"
It's an Ingrid Orca, sails by Hasse, oversized rigging by Port Townsend Rigging, custom mast and aluminum pilothouse and a new Perkins 60 HP engine.

It passed the survey with flying colors. The sea trials were in 30 knts of wind, 3-5
foot seas and she was amazing. I move aboard starting tomorrow after I remove and catalog all spares.

Been shopping for 2.5 years.

Today I pulled the trigger. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Re: About to Pull Trigger - ???

To the OP buy the boat that you find yourself looking back at all the way down the dock when leaving the marina. As for making her come around that is easy. Every time she comes to the boat only sail and do fun things. When you are alone you can start on the list of all the problems the boat has. I use to start projects every time I would go to the boat with some of my old boats. This would be no fun for her and would makes her think the boat is junk. If she is having fun then u can have fun.

Re: About to Pull Trigger - ???

Coming from the other side of the pond I had to google the make. Very nice yacht and an excellent size

We have had 5 adults plus the dog on ours (it wasn't planned) and whilst cosy we had a great time. With just the family its an ideal size.

So when are you next going to visit and were are the photos then?

Re: About to Pull Trigger - ???

We (my wife, the owner and I) are supposed to take her out on another sea trial tomorrow or Friday as the last time we went out in her the wind died completely and there was no sailing.

I am torn:
I have two boats that I am considering, one is the 1989 32 Ericson for which I will go into debt for two years to own. The other is a 1981 8.5M (28') S2 that I can buy outright with no debt.

I really like the size of the 32 and the fact that the mast is keel stepped while the S2 is deck stepped. The 32 has a real head while the S2 has a port potty.

It would be nice not to owe anything but just can't get the 32 out of my head.

Decisions, decisions

Re: About to Pull Trigger - ???

First I would not let deck vs keel stepped mast be a deciding factor. Properly done either can be safe, strong and seaworthy.

But the extra room and real head can be a big plus.

How are your DIY skills? Standard deal, put in sweat equity, spend less money. Side benefit, learn your boat inside and out.
