Re: 5 Years of Cost Data -

To the specific question of medical insurance for traveling and expatriates, there are policies offered specifically for that purpose. They cover you only when out of the country so don't duplicate other coverage. They can be for one trip, for infrequent travel or for those living out of the country, such as cruisers.

The other possibility is high deductible riders or major medical. These would not cover any routine care but would provide protection in the event of a major illness or surgery.

we were trying to get into a south african group policy but in the end i was to old at age 69 -- but our sa friends carry such a policy and are very happy with it -- just need to find a group policy that will accept you - i think it may be a bit late for me

not sure what you mean - if you mean visiting inland - yea it needs to be accounted for -- and really depends on where you are as to the cost - and what you want to see --

Re: 5 Years of Cost Data -

actually it loks like it might be less this year -- hard alcohol is very expensive in tunisia but the tunisians have a number of very good vineyards and make good wine so when in tunisia drink wine and we do -- and it is inexpensive -- next stop is italy and guess what they started the whole wine thing so when in rome - and again we understand we can buy good wine by the gallon

Re: 5 Years of Cost Data -

Sorry, I use a MacBook and I couldn't open the attached file.
Also it's now late 2015 and perhaps figures have changed. Anyway, I didn't want to start a new thread unless it's necessary so here goes:

How much per month in pure food+water expenses? (drinks on the side if possible).

Costs for harbor, maintenance, insurance etc I'm sure I'll be able to find when looking around...

Try neooffice.org or the no-donation needed older version at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/download.php#download . I have no idea if it will work with your specific OS, but Microsoft Excel .XLS files are, after all, the standard spreadsheet file in the entire global business market. I can't believe Apple just sold you a toy that can't access the standard spreadsheet.

Food etc is highly individual. Got a watermaker? no cost for water. Eat lobster annd drink champagne every day at home for breakfast? Guess what - you'll do thee same when cruising. Personal habit are hard to change.

Do you really like fish and like to catch them yourself? - food budget down. Steaks every day? food budget up.

We like to eat local food where we can - so generally this is cheaper than buying wwhat you would at home. Sweden is expensive - figure something like half (around about) what you normally spend at home, assuming you also buy local foods

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: 5 Years of Cost Data -

Nellos -- let me know if it does not work and I will get the numbers to you.

and we just finished our summer sailing season and started on updating the spreadsheet - one thing for sure we spent more on eating out as we sailed the greek islands and the admiral went on strike and ordered that we ashore as it was too hot to cook - hum she never did that in the carib southern latitudes - wonder why?
