What 'Water-Related' Book Have You Read Most Recently?

I am starting Song of the Sirens, Ernest K. Gann it was given to me as a gift from a Captain I used to work for.

I just Finished Doris Kearns Goodwin's book on Lincoln...whew!!!!

Olin Stephen's "All this and sailing too"

"The Boy, Me, and the Cat" by Henry Plummer.
If you boys like guns and shootin' stuff this is the book for you.
They take their gaff rigged 20 odd foot sailboat from Falmouth, MA to Florida and shoot all the game they want around the 1920's along the coast. More a narrative then a novel but quite interesting none the less.
The cat does make it to Miami though and the man and boy return to New England in the end. An interesting look at life nearly 100 years ago along the eastern seaboard which is now home to the ICW.

thats right. We are getting quotes done for work on the boat - some nice upgrades to make Nics life better..... but the quotes are my nightmare! LOL

Empire of Blue Water the story of Henry Morgan which I enjoyed. It is quite similar to Cup of Gold by John Steibeck which I had read about 30 yrs ago.

As far as Heyerdahl is concerned:

Green Was the Earth on the Seventh Day

I think the afterword to this book is among the top-ten of my reading ever - marine or not.

Reading, The Varieties of Scientific Experience by Carl Sagan. Some of it relates to the oceans. Has some good mind bending stuff in it that might make you think differently about the universe on a starry night from your boat.

Paul Theroux - 'The Happy Isles of Oceania'.

I like all his books particularly his "Non fiction" which I doubt are really Non fiction" but he does give a good account of someone F**ked in the head which I am sure he is. But I think there is a bit of him in all of us sailors.

I just finished a Hal Roth book "Handling Storms at Sea" and I am just about done with Eric Hiscock's "Two Yachts Two Voyages". Both are great writers and story tellers. Each allows the reader to glean a bit of information while enjoying a compelling story.
