Time to start learning piloting/navigation

I am reading chapmans piloting. Today I am going to pick up the charts of the areas I intend to sail in and probably a copy of chart 1210Tr (training chart). Is there a book you would recommend that makes it quick and easy to grasp coastal piloting? I realize this is probably an educational process that could go on for years, I'm interested in finding a good starting point. Something to fast track me down the road to understanding.

Chapman Piloting is fairly comprehensive.

Do yourself a favor and follow Bash's recommendation, or Boat Navigation for the Rest of Us: Finding Your Way By Eye and Electronics by Bill Brogdon.
