'The Boat Who Wouldn't Float' by Farley Mowat

I've read several of his books, Grey Seas under, Serpents' Coil and the Boat who wouldn't float. I liked them all. After reading Grey Seas Under I ended up building a small scale model of Foundation Franklin based on the drawing in the book. One thing, its pretty hard to find any sort of info on HMS Frisky, which was her original name.

As for the details in the book, a lot of it can be cross referenced, and appears to be quite true. Ditto the info in Serpents' Coil.

The Boat who wouldn't float was just a good yarn and fun to read.

If you read another Mowat story the black joke you would see some similar yarns. Both I thought were amusing fiction.

The Black Joke is a fun read. The Grey Seas Under is one of my favourite books. One of the former Captains of the Foundation Franklin lived behind us when I was a kid growing up. He told my Dad a lot of stories that made the book seem quite tame. I do know that as a 12 yr old , mowing his lawn was a terrifying experience if it didn't pass muster.

I enjoyed Mowat's novel! While several steps from reality, I find such tales to be good reminders that sailing is about a lot more than sailing, and that nothing can replace experience.

One of the most enjoyable boats I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's one of those I pick up every few years and read again. A real classic!

I read the Boat Who at least once a year, but I am banned from reading it in bed because I laugh too much. Mowat wrote a book called the Bay of Spirit which is a truer account of his time on the southern shore. I think he was trying to make amends.
