Photos from the Construction of the Panama Canal

A really cool collection of photos from the building of the canal.

Relive the Panama Canal's colossal construction in photos

Just amazing that they got it done. Thousands of lives lost along the way. Something to contemplate as you transit on to the South Pacific. . . .

Re: Photos from the Construction of the Panama Canal

I've more than my fair share of documentaries, books and articles about the ditch build... It's still as fascinating as ever...

Thanks for sharing !

Read the best book about building the canal. David McCullough, Path Between The Seas.

Re: Photos from the Construction of the Panama Canal

A few of my pics from the canal.

https://db.tt/twDTwZCS

Impressive to see the 100 y.o. canal function from the inside.

Other interesting sights along the way: "Hitler's Crane" and the prison where Noriega is still held (old and sick I hear).

The expansion project, while not as epic as the original build, is impressive too. I saw the huge new lock doors come in by ship and now they are installed.

Re: Photos from the Construction of the Panama Canal

An interesting related read is "I Took Panama". The story of how one determined Frenchman and the USA pulled an epic slight of hand on first the Colombians and then immediately on the brand new country of Panama to steal the Canal Zone. A revolution and usurping a wide swath of soveriegn land without firing a single shot...pretty clever.
