PassageWeather.com - Wind and Wave Forecasts for Sailors and Adventurers

After two years of development and beta testing, PassageWeather.com is now officially online and “ready for prime time”. PassageWeather.com is a new weather website “for sailors and adventurers”, consisting of 7-day sailing forecasts for all the oceans and seas of the world, updated 4 times a day.

We’ve taken all the vital weather information that sailors want, including wind speed and direction, surface pressure, wave height and direction, sea surface temperature, etc, and packaged it all into a very intuitive, fast, and easy-to-use format.

And all this information is available (for free) for everywhere you would possibly be sailing, with the same “look and feel” for all regions. These regions range from full ocean overviews (North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, etc.) down to more detailed sub-regions (South Florida, Windward Islands, etc.). There are also special forecasts for the major ocean races, such as the Newport Bermuda Race, Fastnet Race, Transpac, Sydney Hobart, etc.

We've recently added a very detailed 5-day Gulf Stream forecast, something that will prove invaluable to navigators preparing for this spring’s Newport Bermuda Race.

I know that there are many good weather sites on the Internet, but they mostly deal with one particular part of the world. PassageWeather.com covers everywhere, so there’s no need to search through dozens of weather sites to get you where you’re going.

Great site Bill. Hope you don't mind if we add a link to your site on our web pages. If it is a problem, let me know.

This is an old thread but if anyone isn't familiar with passageweather.com, it's a great planning tool.

This is one of those rare times it is good to bump an old thread . Passage weather has become the go to for many sailors world wide for passage planning.

Unfortunately, passageweather.com has no detailed information for our region. Windytv.com and windguru.cz, however, both provide highly detailed forecasts that apply to the Marianas and the rest of the globe.

I just guided my friends on the passage from Ecuador to Marquises using passage weather only and it was spot on 95%

PW has a decent display, but in the end it is just a graphical GRIB display. The underlying accuracy of the GRIB model is the accuracy you get. There are many ways to get a GRIB file.

Frankly, I think Windyty is better.

It's all, the same gfs data anyway.
The weatherfax/grib plug ins on Opencpn is arguably better than the lot - overlay sat pictures ontop of gribs and synoptics or whatever you choose.

Windyty is very pretty though

I like it for just checking whats going on out there. Easy to use.
Found it pretty accurate for wind speed and wave height 1 week ahead on our 2 Tasman crossings. Good for planning the timing of an offshore trip and to get an estimate of how much fuel your might be using.
For coastal stuff you need to complement Passageweather.com with Met Service forecasts info to take into account the local effects of nearby landforms.

Not quite, it might use the windyty graphical engine but does some very useful passage planning on top, must be the best (only?) web based around.

Is it written by the same team?
