Missed Mine
Multihulls Magazine has a wonderful and varied list of topics and excellent articles. I think it is an addictive magazine - although the majority of sailors have limited interest in multihulls so don't light up the first one.

DIY Boat Owner is one I've never seen. Is it about power and sail? The title sounds intriguing.

I voted but my vote doesn't reflect my reality. I voted for Pacific Yachting as that is the one I wait the most eagerly for since it has great local applications that a mag talking about the virtues of Florida doesn't have for me. But my favourite of favourites is Practical Boat Owner, but if that is my favourite, why didn't I vote for it? Put simply, the cost of an issue here in Vancouver, BC for this UK pub is $13.
I guess what I am trying to say is that for us boating fanatics, we really do have more than one favourite. I would suggest that we can vote for three and if a person only has one they like, their voting can stop there. |

I should have been specific but anyone can vote for multiple magazines. I personally voted for my two favorites. I would hope that no one votes for the same one twice or no dead people vote as is so often the case in my fair state ;-). Anyway my research prof would have a list of threats to validity a mile long for this poll but hey, it's boating, it's supposed to be fun.

This sounds like a good poll, however I think it would be more useful to have asked "What magazines do you regularly read?" instead of what is your favorite. Favorite is a judgemental term that many may have trouble with as they read many magazines and for different reaons. For example I read blue water sailing, although I think it is weak in content, but it has it's own perspective, I also read Latts&Atts, however I cringe each time the spell "cool" "kewl" and BB's rampant self promotion gets old. However they do have some great location articles which I enjoy. I read Cruising World because I love reading Fatty Goodlander.

So far, it looks like the better magazine is winning
Although I can't believe I am the only one who reads Maritime Life And Traditions?

Kai, This is the first I've heard of Maritime Life and Traditions but I plan on checking into it and Practical Boat Owner if I can find them.

DIY Boat Owner is a terrific hands on project magazine. I pick one up whenever the featured project is of interest.

Good Old Boat subscription?
I've decided to try Good Old Boat based on the good things I've read about it here, but it's quite expensive relatively speaking. Is there a "bargain" way to subscribe?

I like quite a number.
Lats and Atts being the favorite since I have been a reader since vol 1 #1. Bluewater sailing for the well written articles on Blue water, Sailing Mostly for Bob Perry's articles. Sea for the Great articles on the PNW and west coast and I have read it since I discovered it on the Bookmobile when I was in the 5th grade on Bainbridge Island WA. Sail, just because I like it. Cruising world because I can pack it around in my computer bag and always find another article to glean info from. I really like 48 north but haven't suscribed. It is free in the pnw If you are on or around puget sound but I would have to drive 160 miles to get a copy Each has it's plusses and minuses and in many ways they compliment each other by each having it's own nitch. |
