Lobster Chronicles

I'm currently reading The Lobster Chronicles by Linda Greenlaw, a lady lobsterman. I'm not at all familiar with the area or lobstering. It's an OK read, doesn't keep me up all right but lots of sweetly familiar nautical lingo. Anybody read the book and have comments about it?

Re: Lobster Chronicles

I've read Lobster Chronicles and I think one other book by Linda Greenlaw. It gives good insight into island living in Maine and life on the water. I have a lot respect for her in following her dream for a life on the water as a captain of a swordfishing boat and now on a lobster boat.

Re: Lobster Chronicles

I liked her book "The Hungry Ocean" much better. In that, she comes off as competent, tough, smart,a bit mysterious. . . . In "The Lobster Chronicles," even though it's a fascinating look at life on a small island, I think the author comes off as a bit neurotic, less captivating than in her first book.

No, you're right. Just out of timing, a bit :-)

Greenlaw was the sword fishing boat captain in real life who was in the "Perfect Storm" (and the one depicted in the movie).

After the Perfect Storm, she went home to Maine and back to lobstering.

Now, after several books and several years, she's back to sword fishing, and has written a first book about it. Apparently, her first stint back was aboard a wholly unsuitable boat...a wreck. Interesting read.
