Free Weather Download Script from s/v Jedi

It took me all day to create it so enjoy!

http://www.sv-jedi.org/sv_jedi/jedi-wx.zip

It was developed and tested on Windows XP. Let me know if it works on different versions too.

cheers,
Nick.

That is good news. But if it isn't too much trouble, I would like you or others with Vista or Windows 7 to do a simple test:

In the script-folder where the 4 files are, make a folder called "tmp" (just empty is fine). Run the script and see if the menu works. That is the tricky part of the script for portability. It is also a very useful part when you get to areas with a flaky wifi, as it will try to complete partial downloads without starting all over.

Nice to hear you guys like it... I used to be software engineer so I find the whole thing rather dumb ;-)

Maybe if a mod reads this he can make this thread sticky?

ciao!
Nick.

I tried it in Vista (64-bit) and it does not work. It creates the /tmp folder & the /work folder, but when the script begins to run it can't get past first or second html links.

It looks like a permission issue as the folders are set to read-only. When I try to uncheck the read-only flag it doesn't work. I assigned a guest account to the folders' settings, and it allows me to remove the read-only flag. Then, I re-run the script it gets to the 2nd link before it hangs. When I go look at the folder permission it's been reset (without the guest access) because the folder got deleted and recreated by the script.

^Hope this makes sense.

Any other Vista users want to chime in with your results?

//Nice script btw. I copied the links into my browser- and they work fine. Also, nice error checking in your .bat file. Looks good, but Vista is being a pain.

Ah, Vista 64 bit... I doubt if it'll ever run on that. Isn't it amazing that a Vista 64 bit can't run a 1980's DOS batch file??!!!

Celestial: that's a funny one and the smiley really shines like that! ;-)

cheers,
Nick.

I think for it to work in Vista 64 it's going to need the use of the attrib command to define the folders to not be read-only.

Also, I set the compatibility to XP Service Pack 2 on the jedi-weather.bat and it seems to work hit & miss.

My script-fu skills are not there.
