First Sailing / Sea Book You Ever Read ?

Mine was Kon-Tiki. My Uncle gave it to me when I was nine. I have read it probably 6 or 7 times. Get something new each time.

I used to read Yachting Magazine when I was a kid. My first book was Dove.

And it only took me 30 something years during which time I have forgotton most of what I used to know.

Oh, I read Chapmans and Duttons in the past also.

Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi when I was 28.

I was born a landlubber in west Texas. I saw the ocean for the first time when I was 20. A friend gave me an old worn out paperback of this book in 1998 and here I am, been living aboard for over a year. Not a cruiser per'se, but a 9to5er that sails the local gulf coast waters till my cruising kitty gets fat.

Sea View Secret by Elizabeth Kinsey and illustrated by Mary Stevens. I was probably 9 or 10. Not so much a sailing or sea book as a mystery for young readers set near the ocean. To a very-landlocked child growing up in eastern Colorado, the concept of a huge expanse of water was captivating. That was one of the early books that sparked a love of reading in me that has only deepened with age. I still think of that book fondly.

A great little book by Paul Elvstrom about racing - I was only a kid and it had little plastic models with it where you could actually re-enact racing stuff. Can't remember the name of it - I still have it somewhere - might dig it out!

I sailed on the lake that the books were based on as a kid - thats where I first soloed on a laser, sunk a fireball and landed on an island, perhaps not deserted but imaginations are rich at that age

The Lion's Paw By Robb White A great kids book

A very old edition of Chapman's. If I remember correctly I got it at a garage sale and was 7 or 8 ( still have it). Sailboats are salilboats but the drawings of the cabin cruisers really date the edition.
