Does Anyone Remember this Book ?

Hi, I am trying to find a book that my man used to have. He gave away his copy to a foster child many years ago. This is an adventure book and contains beautiful pictures on every other page as well as illustrations around the edges of the written page. This book includes a story of a young boy who helps the Captain of a ship avoid an iceberg because he was watching a bird and by chance saw the iceberg. He carves a bird from 'treasures of the sea' (bones, teeth, ?) I think the author was named something like Hollings Quincy Hollings. I would love to find a copy of this book as a surprise for my boyfriend. I ran across this website trying to locate the book. The forum that I read showed me that you are very informative. I hope I can get some results. Thank you.

Perhaps Holling Clancy Holling, example: Minn of the Mississippi?

Minn of the Mississippi - Google Books

Re: Does anyone remember this book?

I remember reading both Minn of the Mississippi and Paddle to the Sea as a kid. Thanks for the memory trigger.

I remember Paddle to the Sea, certainly, because it was in every friggin' Canadian kids' library when I was a cabin boy. Also, the NFB made a movie of it that was quite famous back in the day

Paddle to the Sea by Bill Mason - NFB.

I only learned recently of the other books the author wrote.

Re: Does anyone remember this book?

Damn does that ever bring back memories. I read the first three, Paddle to the Sea, Tree in the Trail and Seabird way back in grade school. I never knew of Minn of the Mississippi. I'll have to see if I can find that one.

Re: Does Anyone Remember This Book ?

Now, Does anyone remember this book? It's called Blue Water Vagabond by Dennis Puleston. If you want to read about a sailing adventure to the Pacific and Caribbean in the 1930's this is great! I bought mine in 1973 in Zambia, Africa for 15 cents secondhand, on the cover the price is 2 shillings and sixpence. Priceless to me now!
