Donna Lange has written a couple of children's books about sailing and ocean preservation. I haven't read them but they sound wonderful and the illustrations are very cute.

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

My old high school teacher and his wife are cruisers (well, semi-retired cruisers) and she has written several children's books about their adventures up and down the ICW.

Toots, A Seafaring Dog Tale

Cumberland Island A to Z, A Scrapbook Journal

The Dismal Swamp State Park A to Z, A Scrapbook Journal

Freddie Frog's Adventure

I's not out yet, we're waiting for final publishing copy, but pretty soon you can read, "Max, The Cruising Cat".

It's a 100% true story about our Snowshoe Siamese and his many adventures becoming a sailor in Mexico.

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

Here's the cover of the book written by my wife Janet.
It's a true story of Max, a Snowshoe Siamese who we adopted at the age of two from a Gringo living in La Paz Mexico.

Max was used to chasing lizards in his fenced back yard, but all of a sudden he was living on a boat !
He experienced all the cruising lifestyle. He loved sailing, eating lobster, fish and quickly became family to Janet and me.

The first printing of the book is in the mail to us as I write this.

We'll check into getting it through Amazon etc., but at first only be available from us and local stores or by mail order. 59 pages, lots of color photos, good reading for all ages, but aimed at grade school kids.

PM me if you want a copy.

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

Hi,

I might be quite late to reply to this post!

However, as there is very little “cruising literature” for children I wrote a book myself! Such a book could interest those dreaming about sailing off with their family and/or introduce the idea to their kids, but not only. It is also a story about traveling and living the dream. I really wanted to share the amazing experiences I had with my family while cruising and encourage kids to have (big) dreams that they can realise one day.

"Merlin's Voyage" is now available on Amazon (paperback or kindle in English and in French): [

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

Hi there

A friend of mine's boy is turning seven soon. He recently got an old sailing dink that was converted to a rowing only contraption.
This will be rectified soon, but he is not too familiar with sailing yet, and the bug has not bitten yet.

Here's the thing - he speaks and reads only Italian.

Does anyone know of a good seafaring adventure book in Italian?

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

Not in Italian, but I will put a plug in for my fathers series of childrens sailing books, sort of based on the Swallows and Amazons concept, but modernised.

So far four books, with plans for more.

Those snake islands kids
Those eco pirate kids
Those shipwreck kids
Those sugar barge kids

All set on boats and in different parts of Australia and NZ.

It's hard to be objective about them, but I have heard from a fair few parents whose 8-13 year old kids really enjoy them. They are a bit complex for my five year old.

You can also get them as hard copies, or download a sample through amazon or kobo.

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

thanks for that, Ben! I knew that John was a great guy, but "revitalizing" the S&A concept of sailing adventure is so cool. I don't have any grandkids young enough to appreciate them, but I'll try to find some other subjects to try them on (after I get a nd read them myself).

Jim

PS I hope he didn't have a female character named "Titty". Even as a child that one kinda struck me as ill advised?

Re: Does Anyone Know Any Good Children's Sailing Books ?

^^ Ha, no.. though who knows in 60 years what the future generations will think of our language and behaviors. The S&A series certainly has has a big impact over many generations of sailors. I grew up reading them, as did my father, and I guess wee Lachlan will as well.
