Any good E Reads?

Just had me a Kindle for a birthday pressie and been stuck into reading round the clock, .....till the novelty wears off......done read me a whole bunch a'porn and now doing some serious study for when I write my novel

So I figgered to get stuck right with 'The grapes of Wrath'. Been kinda hard readin like a Okie talks but I got it licked after 24 chapters.

Now to refresh my palete, I fancy a few nautical novels. What I enjoy in a good book is the possibility of it being more an just a story, but that it could be a real true life account, like 'Jaws'. All the places and circumstances fit fit the plot.

So, whadya say? Got any recommendations for 'E' books with a salty taste?

Just for curiosity, anyone here abouts got any observations to make about Steinbeck or Grapes of Wrath?
Kinda hard to imagain such hardships only a few years 'fore I was born an to see a government letting their own folks suffer like that.

Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum - Project Gutenberg

If you don't mind paying then The Long Way, Sailing to The Reefs or The Logical Route by Bernard Moitessier are high up the list. On my boat anyway

I use the sample option on amazon a lot to check out stuff before parting with hard earned cash.

I enjoyed this a lot.

Also if you're into any sort of historical Navy fiction I recommend C.S. Forester and Patrick O'Brien though they may get a little long winded.

Apologies on the typo. After reading the ENTIRE 20 book series along with the unfinished novel, it did get a bit... Well lets just say I would have been better served breaking it into pieces. However, I did still recommend him!

You did indeed, and if you enjoyed him, let me recommend again Marryatt. It's not for everyone, but he was actually alive during the period in question, and knew many of the great names of the time as well. He's also the only author I know of who was a Post Captain, R.N., and fought in over thirty sea battles. Plus he's really funny. Like hilarious.
Just so people know, there is an unfinished final O'Brian novel in the Aubrey-Maturin series. It is entitled 21. You should also read The Golden Ocean and The Unknown Shore. Commodore Anson's voyage was fascinating. I dont know if O'Brian is on Kindle though, I have so many hard copies I've never checked. Keep reading and have fun!

Most of the works of Tristan Jones are on Kindle now too. Big fan of his work too.

Working on this one myself.. Pretty good.

I got my Kindle late last year while in Afghanistan and filled it up with a lot of the older classics Amazon had because they were free.

Bet she's got some stories! Seems like Jones was quite a character, even if they say he made up most of his work. The more fantastical stuff anyway, like Ice! and The Incredible Voyage. They say even his stuff about his time in the RN in WWII is BS, apparently he never was a matelot, though his work certainly is convincing to me. He introduced me to the Andrew anyway. I like his books about his childhood in Wales best anyhow.
It's not on Kindle, but I like George Millar a great deal. Most of his works are WWII memoirs, but he wrote a great book about cruising the canals of France and the Med in '46 that should be read. It's called Isabelle and the Sea. A great author.
