Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

HI Dave,

Just download OA from Google Store, seems OK on my Samsung S4.

What about plugins which were delivered with openCPN (Gribs and Dashboard) ?

What About languages files ? : for a non English speaker, this option was a real bonus

Serge

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Hi all,
RE: No charts displayed problem & solution.
Downloaded OA yesterday to my new Galaxy S5. Put in an external SD card and transferred the files to the card from my computer. It worked for about half a second then blank. Had the indicator lines at the bottom of the screen indicating charts but nothing else. Also the directory disappeared containing the charts on Android file manager. I tried clearing the cache. I tried transferring via Google Drive, Wifi, SideSync, USB cable, I could go on. I downloaded various file transfer programs and file managers.
Nothing worked until ...
I downloaded ES File Explorer. I navigated to the directory containing the charts. And then, this is where the magic occurs, the directories appeared with their files.
And when I restarted OA, the directory was there with the subdirectories and charts.
It has been working perfectly.
Something about ES File Explorer must refresh some cache or index of files but it worked.
Frank
Also, suggest that help file be updated utilizing Android techniques.
Great job though!

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Just downloaded the full version from Playstore. I had to uninstall the beta before, because Google meant it was already installed and a download wasn't possible otherwise, all setup has to be done once more.
It's an honor to me to support your excellent work, guys! Thank you!

There are only few wishes to the developers left at the moment:
Let the search for charts start with 'sdcard1', as most of us will prefer the charts storage there.
Language support.
UserIcons work fine, only ownship.png isn't shown.
On the earlier beta versions till .818 I had a problem with the settings on my Sony Xperia Z tablet. Pressing the settings button on my Sony Xperia Z mobile correctly showed "Display", "Charts" and "Connections", the tablet directly goes into the "Display" submenu (I can see it for a second only) and OpenCPN restarts, nothing is written to the logfile.
So I copied all the configs with toolbar enabled from my phone to the same directory on the tablet, the only way I could get OpenCPN settings available and OA running.
On the newer versions there is a small toolbar by default now and with this I have a second possibilty for changing the settings, this works fine on both devices, but still the old problem persists on my tablet. Any idea?

Everything else is working fine and smooth, even with several high res ChartAid-charts and UserIcons installed.

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Lepinard, I don't know if this got resolved. I believe bdcat found there was a memory shortage issue with your cell phone. By any chance, did you try to clean up your cell phone memory useage and shutdown and reboot your phone?

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Lepinard...

I am afraid that OpenCPN for Android is not compatible with your phone.

The logfile message tells us that the OpenGL environment has insufficient memory to initialize the screen. I realize that the RAM on your phone is larger than some others which work. For some tablets, we can run with 512 MB RAM. But on your phone, the OpenGL libraries do not seem to be able to access all of the available memory. So, no go.

I have added your phone model to the excluded list for OpenCPN on the Google Play Store.

Sorry
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

opencpn 4.9.915 installed in Samsung Phone S3 Mini GT-I8190 1 GB
Opencpn working well with Raster and S57 charts. Good response time.

//
Installation issues with opencpn.apk in extSdCard>>>"Application not installed" all the time
Solution (Googling):
1 - opencpn.apk loaded in unit storage folder (sdcard0)
2 - Uninstall external SD card (extSdCard)
3 - Install opencpn.apk >>> Application Installed
4 - Install extSdCard
//

UserIcons Problem:
Looking for UserIcons at /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/UserIcons
Loading UserIcons from /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/UserIcons
1 - Opencpn shows no UserIcons symbols in Mark properties
2 - Imported marks show default opencpn symbol (Triangle)
Attached log.

Great application – Sublime
Congratulations

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Just an FYI..

I installed this version on my Radxa Rock Pro (a small android pc based on the rock chip). It runs fantastic and is smooth. Very nice.

It would be really interesting to see how this would work on a Raspberry Pi 2 running Android. I will see if I can find time to try it!

Dave and Rick
Concerning the black screen issue I join to this post:
- the output of the program OPENGL-ES INFO in case it helps to investigate.
- the log file

Re: OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release

Lepinard I am on cell have not read above files yet. Can you confirm that your cleared your tablet memory and cleaned up the tablet? Its under settings as you probably know. Do not recall if you had tried that. -Bdcat thinks it is a more basic incompatibility. Asus makes cheap android tablets with gps, or they used to.
