Atkins & Hoyle Ltd. Arches, Hardtops, Hard Dodgers

Hello,

New for our 2009 product catalog is our fully customizable Arches and Hardtops! These new systems offer greater flexibility for the cruiser looking for custom Arches and Hardtops. Our design is based around a modular concept. This means that we have eliminated all wends and bends and replaced them with our super strong, super light Al/Mg casting that will not corrode in salt water.

One of the problems with welds is that they burn off the anodizing at the weld site, manufacturers of this type of system simply paint over the weld with gray paint. This is where the corrosion begins and spreads. Corrosion is not a issue with our castings.

Another problem is the strength of the bends. Tubing that is bent is weakened tremendously and will want to keep bending. By eliminating bends, our system is stronger. We are also able to insert solid bars at all the stress points, increasing strength by many factors. This cannot be done with a bent, welded system.

Our modular system also creates an opportunity for you to seriously customize your system, making it just right for your boat. All the fittings have multiple degrees of motion, meaning that they can be turned to any imaginable angle. This cuts down significantly on labour costs, meaning that you get the system you want at about half the price of a custom, welded frame.

No more will you have to rely on the schedules and cost per hour of a welder. Never again worry about corrosion or the system failing. Get what you want, how you want it, at a fraction of the price of traditional systems.

We have many options for our systems as well. Davits for dinghies up to 250lbs. are available with up to 60" of reach. Wind generator mounts and supports can be added along with adjustable solar power mounts and radar mounts.

With this same system we are able to create custom Hardtops and Hard Dodgers. We use very lightweight fiberglass sheet for the cover and beautiful arched support beams. There is a track along the edges which allows for windows and canvas to be seamlessly integrated into the system.

The system can be fabricated by us here at Atkins & Hoyle by you providing some simple dimensions and what you want, or the fittings can be sold individually if you want to have a DIY project. All fittings are designed to go with standard Arch Hardtop tubing, which is called 1 1/2" sch.40 (measures 1.90"). Everything is polished and anodized.

I have installed an A & H motorized rotating davit crane for a customer in the past to lift their dingy onto the cabin roof, and it was a real slick device..... Price list, pictures and web site are tough to use though!

Very interesting but not too elegant.

Hi Rick,

ah but as the saying goes, what (s)he lacks in beauty (s)he makes up for in the kitchen! jokes, of course...

seriously though, the modular design does offer several advantages compared to the 'sleeker' welded frames. Least of which is that it is much more functional. A lot less money too.

Cheech, our website is in serious need of revamping. look for a complete redesign this winter! thank you for the compliment, was it low-profile crane? the one that folds down by pulling the pin?

I think it was model 3000 or 4000. Very easy to use, the customer was able to leave their entire dingy rigged with engine etc and just lift onto chocks on the cabin top. We mounted the crane on the aft cabin top supported with an post under. (Alum boat)
